Captain Atom, a superhero from DC Comics, made his first appearance in Space Adventures #33 (March 1960) as an Atomic Man. This version of the character was published by Charlton Comics before DC acquired the rights.
Nathaniel Adam, as he was originally known, was a U.S. Air Force test pilot who volunteered for an experiment that fused alien metal to his skin. During the experiment, Adam was blasted into the quantum field, re-emerging years later with incredible powers.
